1973-74 O-Pee-Chee Wayne Cashman #85 Boston Bruins
If you collect Big Bad Bruins vintage, this 1973-74 O-Pee-Chee Wayne Cashman #85 Boston Bruins is a cornerstone piece that brings genuine Garden grit to your display. This is the original Canadian O-Pee-Chee issue from the 1973-74 season, the year hockey cards exploded with bold red borders and unmistakable 70s photography, and Cashman’s card captures the heart of that era. Wayne Cashman was never the flashiest name on Boston’s roster, yet he was indispensable. As the mucking left wing on Phil Esposito’s line with Ken Hodge, Cashman did the dirty work in the corners, protected Bobby Orr, and helped Boston capture Stanley Cups in 1970 and 1972. In 1972-73, the season featured on the back of this card, he posted 29 goals and 39 assists for 68 points and racked up 100 penalty minutes, the perfect embodiment of skill and sandpaper that made the early 70s Bruins a pop-culture phenomenon from Boston Garden to national television. A true Nova Scotia tough guy who would later coach and have his number honored by the organization, Cashman remains a beloved figure for collectors who value character over mere stats. This card shows him in the classic white home sweater, stick up, ready to battle. The historical value is enhanced because this is the Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back version, printed in Canada by O. P. C., with English and French text, seasonal stats, a hockey cartoon and the distinctive stick graphic header. It is not a Topps single-language issue and it is not a puzzle back, it is the true Canadian bilingual release that O-Pee-Chee collectors demand for a complete set. From the front scan, centering is approximately 55/45 left to right with a slight lean top to bottom, which is strong for this notoriously off-center set. The bright red border shows light edge chipping along the right edge near the shoulder and minor touch wear at the bottom right corner, common to O-Pee-Chee red stock, but the image remains clean and fully focused with no creases, wrinkles or surface scratches visible. Corners show gentle rounding, especially the top left where soft white is visible, while the other three corners retain decent points for the age. From the back scan, the dark stock back is uniformly toned with some light age browning and a clean sans-serif bio, the brown cartoon box is crisp, and there are no pen marks, paper loss or wax stains. The card presents as a solid vintage EX example with authentic wear consistent with fifty years in storage. The conservative
