1973-74 O-Pee-Chee Carol Vadnais #58 Boston Bruins Own a piece of Boston’s blue line muscle with this 1973-74 O-Pee-Chee Carol Vadnais #58 Boston Bruins, a dark-back Canadian classic that embodies the smashmouth Bruins of the early seventies. This is the true O-Pee-Chee version from 1973-74, instantly recognizable by its torn-edge red border, ribbon team banner and bilingual Canadian back, and it features one of the most traded yet respected defensemen of the era. Carol Vadnais arrived in Boston in February 1972 in the blockbuster deal that sent Reggie Leach and Rick Smith to California, and his booming shot from the point immediately made Boston’s power play even more dangerous alongside Bobby Orr. A former all-star with Oakland and a future Stanley Cup champion with Montreal in 1971, Vadnais was a minutes-eating defender who could score, hit and police the ice, and the 1972-73 stat line on this back shows 7 goals, 24 assists and 31 points in 78 games split between California and Boston with 127 penalty minutes, a perfect snapshot of offensive defense in the clutch-and-grab era. Fans who grew up watching Hockey Night in Canada will remember Vadnais’s mustache, his heavy slapshot and his quiet toughness, making him a favorite for completists chasing the Bruins team set and Seals alumni who crossed over. The card front shows him in the white Bruins home jersey leaning into a shift, a strong action pose for the set. This is unquestionably a Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back card, printed in Canada with French and English FICHE POUR 1972-73 records, a cartoon fact about his contract and the O. P. C. mark at the bottom, not a Topps US issue and not a puzzle back. The front exhibits classic O-Pee-Chee red border edge roughness along the top edge with minor chipping at the top left corner and light softening on all four corners, the bottom right showing the most rounding under magnification from the protective sleeve. Centering is roughly 60/40 top to bottom favoring bottom, and 55/45 side to side favoring right, which is very presentable for this set where 70/30 is common. The photo area is vivid with no print dots, snow or surface scuffs, and the yellow team banner remains bright. The back is the coveted dark stock variation, with even aging and light cardboard grain, no ink smudges or deleted stamp marks, the cartoon WANTED box is legible, and the player text is crisp despite slight toning around the edges. No creases or wrinkles are present. The conservative Grade Estimate: VG-EX 4.5
