1972 O-Pee-Chee Pro Action #125 Test Your Football I.Q. Calgary Stampeders Winning Streak

Description

1972 O-Pee-Chee Pro Action #125 Test Your Football I.Q. Calgary Stampeders Winning Streak Step into the golden age of Canadian football with the elusive 1972 O-Pee-Chee Pro Action #125 Test Your Football I. Q. Calgary Stampeders Winning Streak, a true conversation piece for any CFL collector who loves the quirky trivia inserts that made O-Pee-Chee a legend north of the border. This card belongs to the celebrated 14-card Pro Action subset numbered 118 through 131 that closed out the landmark 132-card 1972 O-Pee-Chee CFL set, the final Canadian-exclusive football issue produced by O-Pee-Chee in London, Ontario as the licensed counterpart to Topps. While Topps handled the American market, O-Pee-Chee delivered this distinctly Canadian product with full English and French bilingual text and the rugged, uncoated stock that vintage collectors instantly recognize. The front presents a classic early-70s Pro Action scene bathed in the set’s famous red border with bold yellow PRO ACTION lettering, capturing the grit of a live CFL collision in saturated 1970s color. The back flips the experience with the playful green TEST YOUR FOOTBALL I. Q. quiz format, asking What team holds the record for the longest winning streak in the C. F. L and offering the bilingual French translation Quelle equipe detient le record du plus grand nombre de victoires consecutives dans la L. C. F., complete with cartoon linemen and the inverted answer at the bottom revealing Calgary 12 games in 1948 and 10 games for a total 22 games, a record that still anchors Stampeders lore and evokes the dynasty years that made Calgary the envy of the West. Collecting this card is collecting a piece of trivia history from a season when names like Leon McQuay, Jim Evenson, and Joe Theismann were defining the league, and when every pack pulled you deeper into the CFL’s unique culture before the era of glossy inserts and parallels. The 1972 O-Pee-Chee Pro Action #125 Test Your Football I. Q. Calgary Stampeders Winning Streak is especially coveted because high-grade examples are notoriously difficult to find due to the vivid red borders that magnify every touch of wear and the cheap cutting techniques at the O-Pee-Chee plant. This is a Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back and is not a puzzle back, featuring blue and green print on the classic off-white to tan cardboard stock with PRINTED IN CANADA and O. P. C. along the margin, and it exhibits honest vintage wear consistent with a well-kept collection. The corners show softening and light rounding with minor whitening at the tips, most noticeable on the upper left and lower right when viewed at an angle, the red-framed edges display faint chipping and micro-whitening along the border that is typical for this condition-sensitive issue, and the surface shows no creases or wrinkles but does present light print snow and a subtle sheen loss from sleeve handling. Centering is approximately 60/40 left to right and 55/45 top to bottom on the front with the back quiz box centered slightly low, a conservative grade estimate of VG-EX 4 is warranted because the card remains clean and presentable with strong color but cannot achieve EX due to the cumulative corner and edge wear and the inherent rough-cut factory edge common to 1972 O-Pee-Chee. For Alex Collect buyers seeking a high-conversion display piece, this card offers affordable vintage authenticity with unmistakable shelf appeal. Grade Estimate: VG-EX 4
