1972 O-Pee-Chee Max Anderson #13 Hamilton Tiger-Cats CFL
Round out your Hamilton collection with this 1972 O-Pee-Chee Max Anderson #13 Hamilton Tiger-Cats CFL card, featuring a versatile American back who made his mark both as a runner and return specialist. Max Anderson was a fifth round draft choice of the Buffalo Bills out of Arizona State who chose to bring his explosive speed north of the border, and his decision paid dividends for Hamilton fans who enjoyed his open field ability. Known for his kickoff return prowess, Anderson led the Bills in rushing in the 1968 and 1971 preseason games and brought a 4.7 yard average per carry to the CFL, a figure that translated well to the wider Canadian field where his acceleration could shine. During the 1968 season he also contributed as a punt and kick returner, using his vision and burst to flip field position, and by 1971 he was a valued depth piece on a Tiger-Cats roster loaded with offensive talent. The 1972 season would be a special one for Hamilton as they captured the Grey Cup at home, and players like Anderson provided the special teams spark that often decides close playoff games. This O-Pee-Chee card displays the bright yellow Tiger-Cats border, a portrait of Anderson in his number 29 jersey with a determined look, and the classic lower nameplate. The reverse is the authentic Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back with blue and green ink, cartoon A Roving Back, French translation Arriere, English text detailing his Buffalo draft status and rushing average, printed in Canada with O P C imprint, not a puzzle back. Front centering is approximately 60/40 top to bottom, yellow borders are bright with only minimal edge chipping, corners are well preserved with the bottom right showing a touch of softness, surface is free of creases, wrinkles or indentations and retains good gloss, photo remains clear and well centered on the player, back shows even age toning with crisp blue border and legible bilingual biography, no pen marks, no surface scuffs, light handling wear only. This is an attractive example of a lesser seen Tiger-Cats back who appeals to both CFL and AFL crossover collectors.
