1972 O-Pee-Chee CFL Ted Dushinski #89 Eight-Year Riders Cornerback Saskatchewan Roughriders

$4.00

Durability is a selling point too, and the 1972 O-Pee-Chee CFL Ted Dushinski #89 celebrates one of the rarest traits in pro football, a defensive back who stayed a first-stringer for nearly a decade. The set’s team-by-team numbering means collectors can build a complete green-and-white squad sequence, and corner cards like Dushinski anchor those runs. Raw Grade Estimate: VG-EX 3.5.

Description

1972 O-Pee-Chee CFL Ted Dushinski #89 Eight-Year Riders Cornerback Saskatchewan Roughriders Durability is a selling point too, and the 1972 O-Pee-Chee CFL Ted Dushinski #89 celebrates one of the rarest traits in pro football, a defensive back who stayed a first-stringer for nearly a decade. Dushinski spent his entire career to date in Saskatchewan, and this card comes from the Riders block of O-Pee-Chee's 132-card CFL set, the last issue of its kind from the Canadian card giant, distributed in ten-cent wax packs with eight cards and bubble gum and now pursued hardest for its Joe Theismann rookie at number 27. The set's team-by-team numbering means collectors can build a complete green-and-white squad sequence, and corner cards like Dushinski anchor those runs. The back copy has the numbers to prove the durability point. Ted joined the Roughriders in 1965 and had held the first-string cornerback job in seven of his eight seasons when this set was issued, with the cartoon panel cheerfully marking Ted's 7th season. Listed at 6 feet, 190 pounds, a non-import out of Saskatchewan, he played on both sides of the ball as a defensive halfback, the DH designation printed on the front, a two-way toughness that defined this Riders era. That era reached its peak two seasons after this card's release, when Saskatchewan ran the table through the West and into the 1972 Grey Cup against Hamilton, with Dushinski still wearing green and white through the run. the front photo shows several small white ink-scuff marks over the green jersey at Dushinski's right chest, a short line of edge wear running down the right border with light whitening at the upper right corner, and otherwise crisp banner lettering. Centering is very good, top-left corner sharp, bottom corners lightly rounded. The back is bright blue and green with scattered tan freckling consistent with age, and small corner softening at the upper left. This is an original Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back, English and French side by side, not a puzzle back. Our estimate is VG-EX 3.5. The surface scuffs and right-edge line are the limiting factors, while the clean corners, bold banner, and unstained reverse argue for anything higher. A raw 1972 O-Pee-Chee CFL Ted Dushinski #89 is a perfect, low-cost addition for Saskatchewan completists chasing the 79-through-92 sequence, and every order ships in a penny sleeve, semi-rigid holder, and team-approved mailer. Grade Estimate: VG-EX 3.5
