Description

1972-73 O-Pee-Chee Pierre Jarry #237 Toronto Maple Leafs Capture a slice of 1970s speed and offense with this 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee Pierre Jarry #237 Toronto Maple Leafs card, a high number short print that features the speedy right winger who once held an NHL record for fastest two goals. Pierre Jarry, or Pete as teammates called him, was born in Montreal in 1949 and broke in with the New York Rangers before being dealt to Toronto late in the 1971-72 season. He made immediate headlines by scoring two goals in eight seconds against the New York Islanders, tying a record that stood for decades, and showed a knack for timely scoring. In 1971-72 he split time between New York and Toronto and posted career highs, giving Leafs fans hope for a new scoring winger. Known for his quick release and ability to play both wings, Jarry would go on to play for several teams including Detroit and Minnesota. The 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee set is famous for its vibrant solid backgrounds and this card uses the Toronto orange with Jarry posed holding his stick upright and smiling, a more portrait style than the action crouches. This is the Canadian O-Pee-Chee version with the bilingual English and French back and cartoon illustration at top, not a puzzle back, printed in Canada with full career stats and a bilingual write up noting his record setting two goals in eight seconds. The front shows four corners with light to moderate softening, the top right corner shows a tiny white touch, edges show minimal chipping with the beige border retaining good color, centering is approximately 65/35 left to right slightly favoring the right side and 55/45 top to bottom, surface is clean with no creases or dimples. The back shows typical O-Pee-Chee tan cardboard, clean print, no wax stains, slight wear at the top edge, and the orange header remains bright, supporting a conservative EX 5 grade due to high number handling and centering rather than damage. The 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee Pierre Jarry #237 Toronto Maple Leafs is a great addition for high number collectors, Leafs fans, and those who love NHL oddity records and 1970s hockey history. Grade Estimate: EX 5
