Description

1972-73 O-Pee-Chee Boston Bruins #3 Team Logo Insert NHL The 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee Boston Bruins #3 Team Logo Insert NHL presents the timeless spoked B in black and gold at the height of the Big Bad Bruins era. Large, graphic, and instantly identifiable, this circular push-out carries the visual power of an Original Six crest while remaining fully seated in its rectangular card surround. O-Pee-Chee distributed Team Logo inserts in third-series 1972-73 wax packs as part of a 30-card checklist covering NHL and WHA clubs. The insert itself is unnumbered, but #3 is its accepted checklist reference. Boston entered the season as defending Stanley Cup champion after defeating the New York Rangers in the 1972 Final. Bobby Orr was redefining the possibilities of defence, Phil Esposito was producing scoring totals that changed expectations for NHL offence, and stars such as Johnny Bucyk, Wayne Cashman, and Gerry Cheevers gave the roster both skill and unmistakable personality. The Bruins had also won the Stanley Cup in 1970, punctuated by Orr’s airborne overtime goal, one of the most famous images in North American sports. That championship context makes this logo insert more than a generic team emblem. It is a compact artifact from the years when Boston hockey became a major part of wider popular culture. The spoked B has remained central to the Bruins identity, linking the Orr and Esposito generation to later stars and the club’s 2011 Stanley Cup victory. This Canadian O-Pee-Chee card was designed so the round logo could be pushed free for display, but the piece remains intact. The correct reverse is plain brown adhesive-style stock with the circular die-cut visible. It is not a Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual statistical back and it is not a puzzle back. The cream card field is generally clean and the logo is well balanced, with the four outer corners showing light softening and the edges displaying modest fibre wear. The black ink naturally reveals several small white specks, faint scratches, and minor print-loss points, especially across the broad outer ring and central B. The gold spokes remain strong, and there is no obvious full-card crease or major wrinkle in the supplied scans. The circular die-cut channel is pronounced but complete, with all holding tabs appearing present. The brown back has uniform age toning, a clearly visible circular outline, and a small area of edge disturbance on the right side without major paper loss. Centering is a strength, with the emblem sitting close to even from left to right and top to bottom. A conservative EX 5 estimate accounts for black-surface wear, slight corner softness, and the inability to inspect outside the sleeve. The card nevertheless offers strong eye appeal and a direct connection to one of hockey’s most celebrated championship teams. Grade Estimate: EX 5
