Description

1972-73 O-Pee-Chee Bob Berry #9 Los Angeles Kings This 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee Bob Berry #9 Los Angeles Kings card tells one of the best athlete stories in the entire 341 card set. According to the bilingual English and French biography printed on the reverse, Berry was an all-around athlete who performed with the Canadian National Track and Field Team in 1967 and played football before committing to hockey, and the cartoon panel notes that Bob loved track and field in addition to hockey, a wonderful piece of Canadian sports history captured on the authentic Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back, not a puzzle back, complete with the orange PRINTED IN CANADA imprint. Berry went on to a long NHL playing career and later stood behind NHL benches as a head coach, including a run with these very Los Angeles Kings, which gives this card a great then and now appeal for Kings historians. The front portrait shows Berry in the gold and purple home sweater against the classic green backdrop with the Kings crown crest beside his name, iconic 1970s design from the season of the Summit Series. Numbered just 9, this is an early series card that anchors the Los Angeles team run. the card shows moderate corner rounding with the bottom corners most affected, visible white chipping along the bottom edge, a faint vertical pressure line left of center on the front that does not break the surface, light overall surface tone consistent with age, vertical centering of approximately 47/53, and the standard left-weighted horizontal layout of the design, with no wrinkles, stains, or writing visible on the front or back in the high resolution scan. The bilingual career record and cartoon remain fully legible. A conservative grade estimate of VG-EX 4 reflects the bottom edge chipping, corner rounding, and the faint vertical line, and buyers should treat the card honestly as a solid lower grade vintage example rather than a high grade investment piece. That honest pricing makes Berry one of the most affordable ways to add a genuine 52 year old Canadian hockey card with a great story to your collection. Grade Estimate: VG-EX 4
