1971 O-Pee-Chee
Rico Carty Joe Torre Manny Sanguillen 62 NL Batting Leaders (EX 5)
Are you looking to add a rare piece of Canadian vintage baseball history to your collection? This beautiful 1971 O-Pee-Chee Rico Carty Joe Torre Manny Sanguillen 62 card captures three of the most feared hitters in the National League during the golden era of baseball. Printed in Canada, this O-Pee-Chee variation is much scarcer than its Topps counterpart, making it a highly sought-after collectible for set builders and player collectors alike.
This card highlights the incredible offensive output of the 1970 season. Rico Carty absolutely dominated the senior circuit, batting an astonishing .366 with the Atlanta Braves. Joe Torre of the St. Louis Cardinals and Manny Sanguillen of the Pittsburgh Pirates both posted stellar .325 batting averages to tie for second place. These three legends are perfectly framed in the classic 1971 design, featuring a prominent central photo of Carty and smaller profile shots of Torre and Sanguillen below.
Condition Report
- Corners: The corners show typical vintage wear with light rounding visible at all four points. There are no major dings or crushing, maintaining a pleasing aesthetic.
- Edges: The top black border shows some moderate edge chipping and white flecks, which is incredibly common for this condition-sensitive set. The side and bottom borders remain quite clean.
- Centering: The centering is quite nice for O-Pee-Chee standards, showing a slight shift toward the top-right but remaining well within acceptable tolerances for a high-eye-appeal raw card.
- Back: This is the highly desirable O-Pee-Chee bilingual back featuring French and English text ("Batting Leaders / Meneurs chez les FRAPPEURS"). The yellow-tan stock is clean without any stray ink, wax stains, or pencil marks.
Based on the visible corner wear and edge chipping, this card receives a conservative raw grade estimate of EX 5. It is a fantastic mid-grade addition to any collection of vintage sports cards.
