Description

1971 O-Pee-Chee Gordon Judges #113 Montreal Alouettes For collectors who love the unique career paths of Canadian football, the 1971 O-Pee-Chee Gordon Judges #113 Montreal Alouettes card offers a fascinating story of a young lineman turned entrepreneur. Gordon Judges moved straight from junior ranks with the Scarboro Rams to the Toronto Argonauts where he played half of the 1968 season and also suited up for the Bramalea Satellites, a classic Ontario junior football pipeline that fed talent into the CFL in the late 1960s. The back cartoon panel states Gordon Has Gone Into Business With His Father and Gordon Est En Affaires Avec Son Pere, showing two figures shaking hands over a deal, a charming snapshot of the era when players balanced football and family business. Listed as Non Import 6 foot 3 and 250 pounds Defensive Tackle and also as Wide Receiver on the front, this card carries a famous front back position error variation that OPC specialists actively hunt, making it more interesting than a standard common. The front image captures Judges in his green number 61 Alouettes jersey holding his helmet with the classic orange Alouettes wishbone logo, a strong visual for Montreal team collectors. The 1971 O-Pee-Chee CFL set of 132 cards is celebrated for its red borders that are notoriously condition sensitive, so high eye appeal examples like this are increasingly tough for set builders. Judges would go on to a respected career in the CFL and later in business and officiating circles. this copy exhibits light to moderate wear for the sensitive red border issue, corners show mild softness with the bottom left slightly more rounded, bottom edge has a few small white chips typical of this set, centering is roughly 65 to 35 left to right favoring the right side and 55 to 45 top to bottom, surface remains glossy with no creases or wrinkles detected, back tan stock shows light uniform toning without foxing. This is a Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back with dual language biography, pink cartoon fact bubble, and O-Pee-Chee Printed In Canada line. Conservative raw grade is tempered by centering and edge chipping even though color is strong. Grade Estimate: VG-EX 4
