Description

1971 O-Pee-Chee Garry Lefebvre #114 Montreal Alouettes Canadian football royalty takes center stage with this 1971 O-Pee-Chee Garry Lefebvre #114 Montreal Alouettes card featuring one of the most decorated two way Canadian players ever. Garry Lefebvre born in Edmonton Alberta starred as both a wide receiver and punter for the Edmonton Eskimos from 1966 to 1969 and the Montreal Alouettes from 1969 to 1971 before returning to Edmonton through 1976, winning two Grey Cups in 1970 with Montreal where he caught the final touchdown to clinch the championship and again in 1975 with Edmonton, adding the Dr Beattie Martin Trophy in 1966 as the West's top Canadian rookie and the Dick Suderman Trophy in 1973 as the best Canadian in the Grey Cup. His short 1970 Montreal season was redeemed by that iconic Grey Cup winning catch, a moment etched into Alouettes lore. The front of this card shows Lefebvre in the vibrant red Alouettes away jersey number 10 holding the ball in front of the old Molson Stadium goalposts and bleachers, a striking stadium background that OPC used to differentiate from Topps. The 1971 O-Pee-Chee CFL set of 132 cards is famous for its difficult red borders and its Canadian bilingual backs that tell player stories in English and French with a whimsical cartoon bubble, making it a cornerstone issue for CFL historians. For this slot the back image in the supplied sheet photo shows a duplicate copy of Al Phaneuf #115 in the middle bottom pocket due to a sleeve insertion duplication during photography, so the actual Garry Lefebvre #114 back is not pictured there, but the correct manufacturer number for Lefebvre is #114 and his standard issue retains the usual Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual format with Printed In Canada, not a puzzle back. Collectors seeking Canadian legends, Grey Cup heroes, and Edmonton native stars will prize this card. the front example displays strong color with crisp blue sky and red jersey contrast, corners show light softness especially top right and bottom left with only tiny white specs, edges have minimal chipping for a red border card, centering is approximately 60 to 40 side to side and 65 to 35 top to bottom favoring the right and bottom, no creases are visible and gloss is intact. This is a Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back in its true form, English and French text with cartoon fact. Conservative grade accounts for centering and light corner touches but overall eye appeal remains high for a key Canadian name. Grade Estimate: VG-EX 4
