Description

1971 O-Pee-Chee Ed George #112 CFL Montreal Alouettes This 1971 O-Pee-Chee Ed George #112 Montreal Alouettes card is a genuine slab of Canadian football history, a bright red bordered original from the era when the Alouettes were the darlings of Montreal and the nine team CFL was captured card by card by O-Pee-Chee right here in Canada. Ed George was never the most famous name on the roster, but along the offensive line he was a genuine force, a two way tackle who had earned small college All American honours as a tight end at Ferrum College before finishing his career at Wake Forest, where an All American season persuaded the Pittsburgh Steelers to select him in the NFL draft. Instead of settling for the grind of American football, George took his game north and became one of the anchors of a Montreal club that won the 1970 Grey Cup and built itself into a contender for the rest of the decade. The back of this card celebrates his selection to the All Eastern team in 1970, a fitting tribute to how highly he was regarded across the league. The honours kept stacking up after this card left the press: George was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman in 1974, and he was later enshrined in the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, before closing out his career in the NFL with the Baltimore Colts and the Philadelphia Eagles, a rare reverse import path that says everything about how good he truly was. For the Alouettes collector, the CFL set builder, or the fan of underappreciated line play, this card sits at the crossroads of a dynasty in the making and one man's Hall of Fame journey. the surfaces are clean and free of creases, wrinkles, and surface marks at scan resolution, the red border remains vivid and evenly applied, and the corners and edges show no chipping visible in the scan, with centering that appears well within the normal tolerances for this frequently off centre issue. The reverse is the classic Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back with the biography printed in both English and French and the PRINTED IN CANADA line at the base, and this is not the puzzle back variation. If you are building the 1971 O-Pee-Chee CFL set or adding a Hall of Famer to a Montreal collection, this 1971 O-Pee-Chee Ed George #112 card is the kind of clean, well preserved fifty five year old original that disappears quickly when it is priced fairly.
