1971 O-Pee-Chee CFL John Helton #125 Bilingual Back Calgary Stampeders This 1971 O-Pee-Chee CFL John Helton #125 Bilingual Back Calgary Stampeders card is a strong vintage defensive player single with excellent Calgary and professional football appeal. Helton is pictured in a close portrait pose, framed by the bright red O-Pee-Chee design, with the Calgary Stampeders logo and defensive end position shown on the front. The card has the classic look of the 1971 CFL issue, a set known for its bold team colours, bilingual backs, and printed in Canada production. The reverse identifies Helton as an import from Arizona State and records that he was selected by the Buffalo Bills of the A. F. L., giving the card an important American football connection before his Canadian success. The back also states that John was selected to the W. F. C. All-Star team in 1969 as a defensive end, then enjoyed an excellent following season after moving to defensive tackle and earning W. F. C. All-Star selection again. That résumé makes the card especially appealing for collectors who focus on defensive standouts, A. F. L. draft connections, or major Calgary Stampeders names. Helton became one of the most respected defensive players connected with Calgary football, and his 1971 O-Pee-Chee card remains a desirable part of any serious CFL collection. This is a Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back, not a puzzle back, with English and French biography text and the cartoon panel format collectors love. The front shows pleasing mid-grade eye appeal with a clear portrait, strong red colour, readable name and team text, and visible but not severe wear. The corners have light touches, the red borders show small white chips, and there are a few surface or print specks consistent with the issue. Centering appears slightly uneven but attractive. The back shows natural cream toning, darker edge aging, light spotting near the borders, and softened corner tips, while the biography, cartoon, and copyright line remain fully readable. No obvious major crease, writing, or paper loss is visible from the sleeve scan. A final raw inspection would be needed to detect very fine wrinkles hidden by the protective page, but the visible condition supports an appealing collector-grade example. The 1971 O-Pee-Chee CFL John Helton #125 Bilingual Back Calgary Stampeders is a great card for Stampeders collectors, 1971 OPC CFL set builders, and fans of notable defensive linemen. Grade Estimate: EX 5
