Description

1971 O-Pee-Chee CFL Jim Furlong #122 Bilingual Back Calgary Stampeders This 1971 O-Pee-Chee CFL Jim Furlong #122 Bilingual Back Calgary Stampeders card is a sharp vintage linebacker single from one of the best known Canadian football card issues of the early 1970s. Furlong is shown in a close portrait wearing Calgary red, with the Stampeders logo printed at the lower left and the large Calgary team name in blue across the bottom. The front layout is bold, simple, and instantly recognizable, making it an attractive display card for Calgary Stampeders collectors and vintage CFL set builders. The reverse identifies Furlong as a Canadian non-import from the University of Tulsa and notes his roots as a Lethbridge native who played junior football with the Calgary Bronks before becoming a steady performer after joining the Stampeders in 1962. The cartoon panel adds a key achievement by noting that Jim was a linebacker on the W. F. C. All-Star Team. That combination of Alberta background, long Calgary service, and all-star recognition gives the card strong regional football appeal. The 1971 O-Pee-Chee CFL issue stands apart because it was made for the Canadian market, printed in Canada, and produced with bilingual English and French backs. This is a Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back, not a puzzle back, and the reverse has the charming cartoon biography style that collectors associate with the set. The front has strong eye appeal with a clear portrait, bright red colour, bold name text, and intact team branding. Visible wear includes lightly touched corners, small white chips along the red border, minor surface and print specks, and centering that appears slightly uneven within the red frame. The top edge has small touches, while the lower area remains clean enough to display well. The back shows typical O-Pee-Chee cream toning, darker edge aging, small discoloration marks, and softened corner tips, while the text block, cartoon panel, and printed in Canada line remain readable. No obvious major crease, writing, or paper loss is visible in the protective sleeve scan. Fine wrinkles can be difficult to confirm through a nine pocket page, but the overall presentation is strong for a raw vintage card. The 1971 O-Pee-Chee CFL Jim Furlong #122 Bilingual Back Calgary Stampeders is a strong addition to a Stampeders team binder, a Western Football Conference collection, or a complete 1971 OPC CFL build. Grade Estimate: EX-MT 6
