Description

1971 O-Pee-Chee CFL Henry King #47 Vintage Base Card Edmonton Eskimos Collectors looking for the 1971 O-Pee-Chee CFL Henry King #47 Vintage Base Card Edmonton Eskimos will find a memorable cross-border football story captured in a colorful vintage format. The front presents King in the green and gold Edmonton Eskimos uniform, with the bright red card design, large name lettering, team logo, and running back position creating a strong period display piece. The portrait has the distinctive look of early 1970s football photography, while the bold border and classic typography make it easy to identify in a team collection. This single card comes from the Canadian 1971 O-Pee-Chee CFL set and offers both CFL team history and an interesting connection to American professional football. The reverse identifies King as an import, lists Utah State University, and gives his listed size as approximately 6 feet 4 inches and 210 pounds. It describes him as a two-year veteran of the AFL and references his time with the New York Jets in 1968 and a trade to Buffalo in 1969. King’s college career at Utah State was particularly impressive. He recorded 18 interceptions in only two seasons, including 11 during his senior year, earned first-team All-American recognition, and set a school record with four interceptions in a single game against Pacific. He was selected by the New York Jets in the third round of the 1967 professional draft. In Edmonton, King produced a strong receiving season in 1970, catching 51 passes for 638 yards and one touchdown, then added another 259 receiving yards in 1971. That background makes this card appealing to collectors interested in Utah State football, New York Jets history, Edmonton Eskimos players, and athletes who moved between American and Canadian football. The card’s reverse is historically significant in its own right. This is a Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back, not a puzzle back. English and French text appear together with a cartoon football illustration, card number, player details, school information, position, career note, O-Pee-Chee mark, and Printed in Canada statement. No definite crease or wrinkle is visible in the supplied images. The upper left and upper right corners show light softening with small areas of whitening, while the lower corners are intact but mildly rounded. The front red border has scattered tiny white flecks, hairline marks, and modest chipping along portions of the side and lower edges. The photograph remains clear, and the team lettering is intact. The reverse shows the expected warm age toning, minor speckling, and light edge roughness without any obvious writing or major discoloration. Centering appears approximately 54/46 left to right and close to 50/50 top to bottom. Fine linear marks seen in the scan may be related to the protective sleeve. The combination of intact structure and visible handling wear supports a conservative Excellent raw grade. Grade Estimate: EX 5
