1970 O-Pee-Chee Rich Robinson #26 British Columbia Lions VG-EX 4

Description

1970 O-Pee-Chee Rich Robinson #26 British Columbia Lions VG-EX 4 The 1970 O-Pee-Chee Rich Robinson #26 British Columbia Lions VG-EX 4 card presents an exciting action portrait from a formative period in modern Canadian football. Robinson is photographed wearing number 13 and charging forward in the Lions’ white and orange uniform. The angled yard line, open grandstand, tall stadium lights, green field, and vivid blue sky give the scene an energetic period atmosphere. The orange British Columbia lion emblem at the lower right adds unmistakable team identity and makes this original card especially appealing to collectors of the BC Lions and vintage Canadian Football League memorabilia. This card belongs to O-Pee-Chee’s 115-card 1970 CFL set, an important Canadian release whose layout closely resembles the second series of 1969 Topps football. Unlike the simple backgrounds found on many corresponding American cards, the CFL issue frequently placed players in recognizable field and stadium settings. That approach produced a colourful visual record of Canadian football uniforms, venues, and personalities at the beginning of the 1970s. Rich Robinson was born in Cumberland, Maryland, attended the University of Miami, and played defensive halfback for British Columbia. His card biography identifies him as a high school All-American and highlights his ability as a punt returner. That combination of defensive coverage and special-teams skill was particularly valuable in the expansive Canadian game. With a wider field, twelve players per side, extensive pre-snap motion, and a three-down format that encourages passing, CFL defensive backs have traditionally required excellent speed, awareness, and versatility. Robinson’s forward-driving pose effectively communicates the athleticism demanded by his position. The black reverse presents Robinson’s biographical information in English and French beside a green football cartoon. This is an authentic Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back. It is not a puzzle back. The bilingual presentation is one of the defining characteristics that distinguishes this Canadian release from related Topps products and adds historical appeal for O-Pee-Chee specialists. The card has moderately softened and lightly rounded corners, with visible handling at the tips. Its cream front borders show age toning, small marks, and intermittent edge chipping. The image retains attractive blue, green, orange, and white colour, although minor print speckling and light surface wear are visible in the scan. Centering is serviceable but uneven, with differing border widths and slight factory-cut irregularity. The reverse has scattered white chipping and rubbing around its easily worn black perimeter, particularly near the corners and along sections of the edges. The biography, card number, statistics, and cartoon remain complete and legible. No confirmed full crease is reported for this position, but the aggregate corner, edge, centering, and surface wear is too substantial for an EX assessment. A conservative VG-EX 4 estimate appropriately reflects the card’s solid visual presentation and complete design while accounting for its visible circulation wear. This card is raw and has not been professionally graded, so the stated grade is a photographic estimate rather than a certification. Grade Estimate: VG-EX 4
