1970 O-Pee-Chee Ed Molstad #55 Edmonton Eskimos CFL Football Card

Description

1970 O-Pee-Chee Ed Molstad #55 Edmonton Eskimos CFL Football Card At six foot six and 260 pounds, Ed Molstad was a giant by the standards of 1970 Canadian football, and the 1970 O-Pee-Chee Ed Molstad #55 introduces the towering Edmonton Eskimos defensive end in the striking white jersey portrait that makes the Edmonton series of this set so memorable, hands on knees at Clarke Stadium with the grandstand stretching out behind him. The bilingual reverse makes a bold prediction, stating that Ed has all the know how and ability to develop into a C. F. L. star, and it emphasizes his Canadian status, an important detail in an era when roster spots for homegrown talent were fiercely contested. The card lists his college as the University of Alberta, marking him as genuine homegrown defensive line talent, and the playful green cartoon panel riffs on the old locker room joke about seeing stars after a collision with an all-star teammate, exactly the kind of humor that has kept the 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL issue beloved for over five decades. The back is the classic Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back, printed in black with the English and French biography side by side and the PRINTED IN CANADA imprint at the border, and it is a bilingual text back, not a puzzle back, the format distinction serious collectors of the 176 card 1970 set always confirm before buying. Big men from this era are especially popular with vintage football collectors because the photography tends to emphasize their scale, and a six foot six defender filling the frame remains visually dramatic fifty years on, giving this card strong display appeal beyond set building alone. For Edmonton Eskimos team set collectors, Canadian content collectors and anyone assembling the full Edmonton run of the 1970 issue, the Molstad is one of the key mid series cards, and copies with this level of preservation are genuinely hard to source in the current market. the front presents crisp corners with only a pinpoint touch of whitening at the top left, clean sharp edges, centering of approximately 50/50, a bright glossy photograph with rich color saturation and no creases, wrinkles or surface marks, and a black bilingual back with light, even corner wear, sharp legible English and French text and the green cartoon panel fully intact.
