1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL Tom Schuette #40 Bilingual Back Ottawa Rough Riders GD 2 Here is the working man's copy of a working man's card, a battered but complete 1970 O-Pee-Chee single of the guard who blocked for three different Grey Cup winning quarterbacks in Ottawa. The 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL Tom Schuette #40 Bilingual Back Ottawa Rough Riders GD 2 on offer is exactly what a set builder needs when the budget matters more than the corners, and it still delivers the full vintage experience, from the crouched stance photograph shot in front of an empty grandstand to the black French and English reverse that defines the issue. Schuette was an Indiana University standout and a first team All Big Ten selection in 1966 who headed north in 1967 and never left, playing through the 1977 season and collecting championship rings in 1968, 1969, 1973 and 1976. That is four Grey Cups in eleven seasons with one franchise, a record of sustained winning that puts him in rare company among imports who made Canada their football home. The set itself, 115 cards strong and printed in Canada, is prized because it captures the last great Ottawa teams of the Frank Clair era, and because it is noticeably scarcer in high grade than its American cousins from the same period. The back of this card is a Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back with the biography repeated in English and French, white type on black stock, the green cartoon panel about Tom teaching school in the off season, and the Printed in Canada credit at the lower left. It is not a puzzle back. the front carries a visible crease running through the lower right quadrant into the team logo and the white name panel, with associated wrinkling in the surrounding border, the upper right corner is frayed with paper lifting, the remaining corners are rounded, edge chipping is heavy along the right border where the stock has flaked and feathered, and centering is approximately 50/50 left to right, while the black reverse shows chipping and whitening around the entire perimeter, surface creases matching those on the front and rounded corner tips, with no writing, tape or staining. The conservative grade estimate of GD 2 is driven by the crease and the edge condition rather than by any missing paper, so the card remains fully intact, original and unaltered. For collectors assembling the Ottawa team run on a budget, or for anyone who simply wants a tangible piece of the 1968 to 1976 championship era, this is an honest and inexpensive option. Grade Estimate: GOOD
