1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL Ron Lancaster #76 Hall of Famer Saskatchewan Roughriders EX-MT 6

$40.00

Ron Lancaster, forever known as the Little General, is one of the most beloved figures in Canadian football history, and card number 76 from the 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL set captures him during the height of his playing prime with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. This copy presents very well with crisp, nearly flawless corners, clean edges with no meaningful chipping, a bright and unmarked front surface free of creases or wrinkles, and centering that is essentially even with a very slight lean toward the right, and the back is the standard Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back with green accents and is not a puzzle back. Raw Grade Estimate: EX-MT 6.

Description

1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL Ron Lancaster #76 Hall of Famer Saskatchewan Roughriders EX-MT 6 Ron Lancaster, forever known as the Little General, is one of the most beloved figures in Canadian football history, and card number 76 from the 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL set captures him during the height of his playing prime with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The front shows Lancaster in a classic green-and-white Riders uniform, an action image against the wide open prairie stadium, part of the distinctive white-bordered 1970 design that O-Pee-Chee produced for the Canadian market. Lancaster's story is a remarkable one, spanning from a modest American upbringing in Fairchance, Pennsylvania, and a college career at Wittenberg to an extraordinary CFL career with Ottawa and then Saskatchewan, where he became the face of the franchise. He famously won the 1966 Grey Cup as the game's greatest quarterback, securing a championship that meant everything to the province, and he went on to serve as head coach of the Riders and later as a Hall of Fame quarterback and broadcaster, remaining a towering presence in Canadian sport until his passing in 2008. He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1982 and into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame, and he held the record for career passing yards and touchdowns for years, which is why his cards carry such enduring popularity among Canadian collectors. Accounting for the strong fresh appearance and only marginal print-level wear, a conservative raw grade estimate of EX-MT 6 is a reasonable and defensible call, with near mint within reach if centered slightly better. Lancaster is essential to any Saskatchewan Roughriders collection, making this a high-demand card. Grade Estimate: EX-MT 6
