1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL Jim Young #32 Hall of Famer British Columbia Lions EX 5

Description

1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL Jim Young #32 Hall of Famer British Columbia Lions EX 5 Jim Young of the British Columbia Lions is a genuine Canadian football Hall of Famer, and card number 32 from the 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL set captures him as the outstanding receiver he was during his prime. Young was a prized Canadian non-import, which made him doubly valuable to the Lions, and the back of this card celebrates him as an exceptional athlete and an outstanding receiver in the CFL, noting that he was the team's Most Valuable Player in 1967 and a league All-Star in 1967 and 1968. The front shows Young with his number 30 arms raised looking up for a pass, a dramatic and athletic pose that captures the essence of a flanker at work, framed by the clean white border and the stadium backdrop of the 1970 O-Pee-Chee design. The Saskatchewan-native connection and his run with the Lions made Young a household name among Canadian football fans of that generation, and he was enshrined in the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1991, firmly securing his place among the great Canadian-born players in the three-down game. Collecting Young is a must for anyone putting together a Lions team set or a run of Hall of Fame CFL players, and this card's clean, raw presentation makes it an attainable yet meaningful cornerstone piece. The 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL set is itself historically important as the first bilingual Canadian football issue, and the backs of these cards tell a story of Canadian regulation and culture that no American set can match. This card shows solid corners with mild tip softness, generally clean edges with only trace nicks, a smooth surface with no creases or wrinkles, and centering that sits slightly off with a heavier left border, while the back is the standard Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back and is definitely not a puzzle back. Weighing the clean surface and the modest centering and corners, a conservative raw grade estimate of EX 5 is the right honest assessment. Grade Estimate: EX 5
