Description

1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL Angelo Mosca #14 Hall of Famer Hamilton Tiger-Cats EX 5 This 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL Angelo Mosca #14 Hall of Famer Hamilton Tiger-Cats EX 5 card features one of the most recognizable personalities in Canadian football history. Mosca appears in his iconic number 68 Hamilton Tiger-Cats uniform, standing in front of the stadium with the confident expression that made him a memorable figure to generations of CFL fans. The card is attractive as a sports collectible, but it also carries pop-culture appeal because Mosca later became known as the professional wrestling character King Kong Mosca. Angelo Mosca played at Notre Dame and built a 15-season CFL career as a powerful defensive lineman. He appeared in a record-tying nine Grey Cup games, won five championships, earned five all-star selections and was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1987. Four of his Grey Cup victories came with Hamilton, including the 1963, 1965, 1967 and 1972 championships, while his 1960 title came with Ottawa. His number 68 was later retired by the Tiger-Cats, a fitting recognition of the toughness and personality associated with his career. The 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL set contains 115 cards and documents this championship era through colourful player portraits and Canadian bilingual production. The reverse is a Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back, not a puzzle back. It identifies Mosca as a non-import defensive tackle, lists Notre Dame University and his measurements, provides English and French text, and includes the green cartoon panel referencing his professional wrestling in the off-season. The Printed in Canada line is visible and confirms the Canadian issue. The front has strong contrast, a clean portrait and good preservation of the black, gold and white uniform. The upper corners show light softness, the lower left corner has mild rounding, and the lower right corner has a small touch of whitening near the Tiger-Cats logo. The side edges show modest chipping and handling, while the photo area has a few fine hairlines and tiny marks that are most visible across the dark jersey and stadium background. The reverse is generally readable with light corner wear, minor whitening along the edges and surface rubbing in the black field. No clearly confirmed deep crease, tear or writing is visible, although a protective sleeve line crosses part of the photographed surface and prevents an absolutely certain stock inspection. Centering is approximately 55/45 left to right and close to even from top to bottom, with the portrait sitting attractively within the cream border. The combination of Hall of Fame status, retired number, Grey Cup history and wrestling connection gives this raw card stronger collector appeal than an ordinary common from the same set. Grade Estimate: EX 5
