Description

1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL #82 Wayne Shaw 1966 Grey Cup Champion Saskatchewan Roughriders VG-EX 4 The Saskatchewan Roughriders of the mid-1960s were built on a rugged, homegrown core, and few names from that era resonate with older Prairie fans quite like Wayne Shaw. This listing is the 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL #82 Wayne Shaw, the elder Shaw brother and a defensive anchor who joined the Roughriders in 1961 and stayed long enough to see the club transform from also-ran into champion. The 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL set lists him as a linebacker, and his resume backs up every letter of it. Wayne Shaw anchored the Rider defensive line through the early 1960s and was a key member of the 1966 team that delivered Saskatchewan its first Grey Cup title with a 29-14 win over the Ottawa Rough Riders. He returned to the final again in 1967, in 1969 and in 1972, making him one of the rare Roughriders of his generation to appear in four Grey Cup games. His contributions were later recognized with induction into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame, a fitting tribute for a player who gave a decade of his career to the Green and White. The card itself comes from the celebrated 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL set, a 115 card Canadian production with crisp photo fronts styled after the 1969 Topps NFL issue and reverse sides printed in both official languages, a distinctly Canadian touch that American collectors have always found fascinating. measured from the scan, this example is slightly off-center left to right with a modestly wider white border on one side, showing light corner rounding and minor edge chipping typical of raw 1970s card stock, with no creases or wrinkles visible in the scan. This is the Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back, printed in English and French on a predominantly black reverse with white lettering and green accents, and it is not a puzzle back. The conservative VG-EX 4 grade reflects the off-center front image and light corner and edge wear, while the card retains solid colour, a clean reverse and honest vintage appeal. For team collectors, 1966 Grey Cup chasers and fans of the two Shaw brothers, this card is a meaningful and very reasonably priced addition to the binder. Grade Estimate: VG-EX 4
