Description

1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL #79 Ted Dushinski 1966 Grey Cup Champion Saskatchewan Roughriders EX 6 The Saskatchewan Roughriders' rise to their first Grey Cup was built on a defence full of local talent, and Ted Dushinski was the definition of a homegrown star. This listing is the 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL #79 Ted Dushinski, a Saskatchewan Roughrider Hall of Famer who patrolled the Riders secondary for eleven seasons. Dushinski was born in Ituna, Saskatchewan on November 10, 1943, grew up playing junior football with the Saskatoon Hilltops, and joined the Roughriders in 1965 as a defensive back and split end. The 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL set lists him with the classic two-way tag of offensive end and defensive halfback, a reminder of how much the game asked of its players in that era. He was on the field for the greatest moment in franchise history, the 1966 Grey Cup championship, and he appeared in the big game four times across his career in 1966, 1967, 1969 and 1972. Dushinski was named a CFL West All-Star in 1970 and again in 1975, and he retired with 33 regular season interceptions, good for fourth on the Roughriders all-time list at the time, plus five more in the playoffs. His knack for the big moment showed in the 1972 Western Final, when his interception helped the Riders upset Winnipeg and advance to the Grey Cup. After finishing his CFL career with the BC Lions, Dushinski was voted to the Roughriders all-century team shortly before his passing in 2005, and he was enshrined in the Saskatchewan Roughrider Hall of Fame in 1993. this example presents well-centered with balanced white borders on the front, corners that are sharp with only the lightest touch of wear, minor edge wear consistent with raw vintage card stock, and no creases, wrinkles or surface marks visible in the scan. This is the Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back, printed in English and French on a predominantly black reverse with white lettering and green accents, and it is not a puzzle back. The EX 6 grade reflects a well-preserved raw card with strong colour, a clean unmarked reverse and excellent eye appeal for a card now in its mid-fifties. For Prairie football purists and Grey Cup collectors, this is a wonderful tribute card to a beloved Rider. Grade Estimate: EX 6
