Description

1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL #75 Alan Ford 1966 Grey Cup Champion Saskatchewan Roughriders EX 6 Every great team needs a Mr. Versatile, and for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the 1960s and 1970s that man was Alan Ford. This listing is the 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL #75 Alan Ford, a homegrown Saskatoon product whose do-everything career made him a fan favourite for a dozen seasons. Ford was born in Saskatoon on July 2, 1943, joined the Roughriders in 1965, and spent his entire twelve year playing career with the Green and White. The 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL set lists him with the wonderfully old-school two-way tag of offensive and defensive halfback, but that only scratches the surface. Ford played defensive back, returned kickoffs, filled in at receiver, and served as the club's punter for most of his career, a true Swiss Army knife in an era of small rosters. He helped Saskatchewan win the 1966 Grey Cup, the franchise's first championship, and in the 1967 final he launched the longest punt in Grey Cup history, a record that still gets mentioned whenever the big game rolls around. His best rushing seasons came in 1967 and 1968, when he carried 66 times in each campaign while sharing the backfield with the great George Reed. Ford's connection to the franchise only deepened after his playing days, as he returned to serve as general manager from 1989 to 1999 and helped build the team that won the 1989 Grey Cup, making him a rare figure who lifted the trophy as both player and executive. this example presents well-centered with balanced white borders on the front, corners that are sharp with only the lightest touch of wear, minor edge wear consistent with raw 1970s card stock, and no creases, wrinkles or surface marks visible in the scan. This is the Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back, printed in English and French on a predominantly black reverse with white lettering and green accents, and it is not a puzzle back. The EX 6 grade reflects a well-preserved raw card with strong colour, a clean unmarked reverse and excellent eye appeal for a card now in its mid-fifties. For a Saskatchewan collector this is a genuinely meaningful card, a hometown hero in every sense. Grade Estimate: EX 6
