1970 O-Pee-Chee Bayne Norrie #60 Bilingual Back Edmonton Eskimos CFL VG-EX 4

$5.00

There is something wonderfully time-capsule about a well-loved 1970 O-Pee-Chee Bayne Norrie single, the kind of card that slipped out of a wax pack and into a scrapbook, and this second copy gives budget-minded Edmonton Eskimos collectors an affordable way to secure the Queen’s University legend for their set build. this copy is the more honestly played of the two Norrie singles we are offering, showing rounded corner wear at the top right, visible edge whitening and minor chipping along the right border, light surface scuffs near the lower left, and centering that drifts to roughly 60/40, while the black reverse exhibits border wear and corner rub but remains free of creases, wrinkles, stains, or pencil marks. Raw Grade Estimate: VG-EX 4.

Description

1970 O-Pee-Chee Bayne Norrie #60 Bilingual Back Edmonton Eskimos CFL VG-EX 4 There is something wonderfully time-capsule about a well-loved 1970 O-Pee-Chee Bayne Norrie single, the kind of card that slipped out of a wax pack and into a scrapbook, and this second copy gives budget-minded Edmonton Eskimos collectors an affordable way to secure the Queen's University legend for their set build. The 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL release is a 115-card love letter to the Canadian game, borrowing the crisp vertical format and stadium photography of Topps' 1969 American issue while adding the bilingual personality that only O-Pee-Chee of London, Ontario could deliver. Norrie was the complete package long before he reached the pros: a six-season letterman at Queen's, team captain in 1967, twice named the Gaels' MVP as a rover back, and winner of the Johnny Evans Memorial Trophy at Queen's, the campus honour immortalized in the cartoon vignette on the reverse. After graduating he broke in with the Ottawa Rough Riders and settled in as a dependable defensive halfback for Edmonton from 1968 through 1975, staying through to a Grey Cup championship season. Queen's rewarded that legacy by inducting him into its Sports and Football Hall of Fame in 1983. For the set builder, the Eskimos subset is a fascinating snapshot of a franchise in transition, and the reverse of this card is a genuine Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back rather than a puzzle back, with mirrored English and French biographies, the green cartoon box, and the PRINTED IN CANADA imprint that authenticators expect to see. this copy is the more honestly played of the two Norrie singles we are offering, showing rounded corner wear at the top right, visible edge whitening and minor chipping along the right border, light surface scuffs near the lower left, and centering that drifts to roughly 60/40, while the black reverse exhibits border wear and corner rub but remains free of creases, wrinkles, stains, or pencil marks. That wear profile lands the card conservatively at VG-EX 4, a sincere and affordable placeholder or type card that still displays the bold green and gold Eskimos imagery with plenty of vintage charm. Collectors who grew up pulling these cards from wax packs will recognize the green and gold uniform instantly, and the vacant stadium backdrop gives the portrait a nostalgic, almost cinematic quality that modern card photography rarely matches. It is exactly the kind of honest, affordable single that makes vintage CFL collecting so welcoming to a new generation of set builders. Grade Estimate: VG-EX 4
