Finding clean examples from this era is a constant challenge, but this high-number short print represents a fantastic target for registry builders and vintage aficionados alike. This classic card belongs in any serious collection celebrating the gritty legacy of the 1960s Original Six eras. The 1969-70 O-Pee-Chee hockey set remains a landmark release in card collecting history. Featuring the iconic "hockey stick" border design, these cards were heavily handled by kids in Canadian rinks and schoolyards, making survives in excellent shape tough to track down. This piece has escaped heavy handling, retaining beautiful color saturation and a sharp layout that instantly evokes nostalgia for the old Maple Leaf Gardens. Ricky Ley was known as a tough, physical force on the blueline. After showing massive promise with the Niagara Falls Flyers in the OHA, he brought his hard-nosed defensive style directly to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Ley would later become an integral figure in the competitive World Hockey Association (WHA) with the New England/Hartford Whalers, eventually pivoting to a successful coaching career in the NHL. His presence on this tough high-number short print makes it one of the more elusive checklist targets in the backend of this prized O-Pee-Chee run. A careful review of the card front and reverse shows strong attributes. The corners show touches of vintage wear, maintaining decent definitions for the issue. The edges show typical O-Pee-Chee rough-cut chipping but remain straight overall. Centering on the front leans slightly toward the left border but displays very well within the hockey stick frame. The reverse features the beautiful, vibrant blue and yellow O-Pee-Chee bilingual back which is clean and completely free from any surface ink marks, pencil lines, or severe wax stains. It presents a highly respectable raw grade estimate. Grade Estimate: VG-EX 4
