Roger Crozier #42 Detroit Red Wings (VG 3)
Own an incredible piece of Original Six goaltending memorabilia with this rare 1965-66 Topps Roger Crozier #42 trading card. Roger Crozier is one of the most heroic figures in Detroit Red Wings history, famously winning the Calder Memorial Trophy as rookie of the year in 1965 and later capturing the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1966 despite playing for the losing team in the Stanley Cup Finals. Known for his acrobatic, fearless style of play, Crozier was a true fan favorite in Motown. This card comes from early in his career, making it an exceptionally valuable addition to any serious vintage hockey collection.
The 1965-66 Topps hockey set is one of the most distinctive and widely recognized vintage sets ever created, famous for its unique "tallboy" style dimensions or bold television-like framing. This specific card features a striking portrait of Crozier with the iconic "Red Wings" banner across the top. The back features his goaltending statistics and a fun trivia question about how Detroit acquired him.
Condition Report:
This card has traveled through time and shows some clear signs of its historical journey. The corners exhibit noticeable rounding and softening, consistent with a well-loved vintage card. The edges show significant chipping and wear along the yellow borders on the front face, which is very typical for this highly sensitive card design. The centering is shifted toward the top-left corner on the front portrait. The surface shows some light aging, minor scuffing, and vintage wear. Turning to the reverse side, the back shows general handling wear, some age-toning of the cardboard, and a few faint smudges, though the text and quiz section remain fully legible. Crucially, while the card shows surface wear, it avoids major heavy creases across the main portrait area. We give this card a realistic raw grade estimate of VG 3.
