1967 O-Pee-Chee Johnny Romano #196 St. Louis Cardinals

Description

1967 O-Pee-Chee Johnny Romano #196 St. Louis Cardinals This 1967 O-Pee-Chee Johnny Romano card is the genuine Canadian-market parallel to Topps, sharing the same front photography but marked "PRINTED IN CANADA" on the back, and as card #196 it sits right at the very end of the entire 196-card O-Pee-Chee checklist for this year, making it a notable checklist-closer for set builders. It also carries a well-documented name error: the front reads "Johnny Romano" while the back is printed as "John Romano," a small variation that catalog collectors specifically look for regardless of which print run the card came from. Romano was a veteran catcher who spent nine big-league seasons behind the plate and earned three All-Star selections, details confirmed right on the card back. The write-up notes he finished second on the White Sox in home runs the year before this card was issued and details his December 1966 trade to St. Louis in a four-player deal, making him a fresh face on the Cardinals' World Series championship roster. His full batting log stretches back to 1954, covering stops in Chicago and Cleveland before landing in St. Louis. the front shows visible print and surface texture across the image area, along with softened corners and light edge wear along the borders, giving the card a well-circulated look. Centering is acceptable but shifted slightly toward the left border. The back shows a bit more wear than the other cards in this group, with light surface marking and corner softness, though the printing remains fully legible with no creases running through the card stock. Given the combined wear, this presents honestly as a lower mid-grade O-Pee-Chee piece, an affordable way to land both the checklist-closing card number and the name-variation error in the same card. Grade Estimate: VG 3.5
