1969-70 Topps Ed Westfall #29 Assistant Captain Boston Bruins (VG-EX)
Add one of the most respected two-way forwards of the Big Bad Bruins era to your collection with this 1969-70 Topps Ed Westfall #29. "Mr. Handyman" of the Bruins was one of the most versatile and underrated players in the NHL — a shutdown forward, penalty-killer, and defensive specialist who could play both forward and defense, and who was routinely assigned to shadow the opposition's best scorers. Fittingly, the photograph on this card shows Westfall wearing the alternate captain's "A" on his jersey, a printed feature of the original image that appears on every copy of this card and a nice nod to his leadership role in the Boston dressing room. Ed Westfall's career is one of the most respected of the era. A two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Boston Bruins in 1970 and 1972, he later became the very first captain of the New York Islanders after being selected in the expansion draft, and he twice won the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy for perseverance and dedication to hockey. His steady, selfless two-way game made him invaluable, and his cards are a must-have for collectors building the complete Bruins Cup roster. This is an authentic Topps card printed in the U. S. A., with the English-only blue Topps back that distinguishes it from the bilingual Canadian O-Pee-Chee release. Note that the "A" seen on the jersey is part of the printed photo — not a mark or alteration — reflecting his status as an assistant captain of the Bruins. A solid, honest mid-grade copy with strong eye appeal. Centering is acceptable with a slight border shift. Corners show light-to-moderate wear and whitening, and there is some minor edge chipping along the left border consistent with the era. The surface is otherwise clean and glossy with strong color and no heavy creases or wrinkles detected in the scan. The blue Topps back is clean and bright with no writing. The printed "A" on the jersey is original to the card and is present on all examples.
