Description

1971 O-Pee-Chee Jim Ray #242 Pitcher Houston Astros (EX-MT 6) Bring a piece of Houston pitching depth to your collection with this 1971 O-Pee-Chee Jim Ray #242 card. Jim Ray was a highly dependable relief pitcher and occasional starter who carved out an impressive career primarily with the Houston Astros. 1970 was a standout season for Ray, where he functioned as a versatile bullpen weapon, logging a stellar 2.90 ERA over 52 appearances. The 1971 O-Pee-Chee set is widely loved for its bold, dramatic design, but feared for its tendency to show edge wear instantly. This Canadian variation features the rare bilingual back, adding a unique regional flair that sets it apart from standard vintage collections. The back lists his full pitching stats and details his uncanny ability to average exactly one strikeout per inning during his minor league career. This card has been exceptionally well preserved. The deep black borders look great, showing only minute pinpoint chipping along the edges. The corners are structurally sound with very minimal softening at the tips. The centering on the front is shifted toward the left margin. The bright yellow back remains incredibly clean, flat, and free of any age-related blemishes or wrinkles. Grade Estimate: EX-MT 6
