Johnny Edwards was an outstanding defensive catcher throughout the 1960s and 1970s, earning three National League All-Star selections and two Gold Glove Awards during his career. He was a trusted commander of pitching staffs and a reliable presence behind the plate for several clubs, including the Cincinnati Reds and Houston Astros. This card showcases a crisp portrait of Edwards against a vibrant background, heavily contrasted by the iconic jet-black borders of the 1971 set design. Finding Canadian O-Pee-Chee cards from this era with clean edges is an incredible challenge due to the crude wire-cutting techniques utilized at the London, Ontario factory. The back features full career statistics alongside a detailed French and English paragraph highlighting his elite defensive reputation and 1963 All-Star season. This specimen boasts strong eye appeal. The black borders are remarkably clean for the grade, showing minimal chipping confined to small spots on the perimeter. The corners show light touches of wear but remain crisp overall. Centering leans toward the top border on the front. The bilingual yellow backing is pristine, maintaining great color saturation with no pencil marks, gum staining, or surface imperfections. Grade Estimate: EX-MT 6
