Description

1971 O-Pee-Chee Jim Driscoll Angel Mangual #317 Rookie Stars Oakland Athletics (EX 5) Unlock a piece of Canadian baseball hobby history with this rare 1971 O-Pee-Chee Jim Driscoll and Angel Mangual Rookie Stars card #317. The iconic 1971 set is legendary among collectors for its unforgiving, hyper-sensitive jet-black borders, making pristine raw examples incredibly scarce. Finding authentic O-Pee-Chee variants produced in smaller print runs by the London, Ontario manufacturer is an ultimate score for anyone trying to finish their 1971 master checklist. This multi-player card features dual prospects for the powerhouse Oakland Athletics system during the dawn of their 1970s dynasty. Jim Driscoll was a sharp-fielding infielder who made his mark in the minor leagues before breaking into the big show. Beside him sits Angel Mangual, a highly touted outfielder who went on to become a key postseason contributor for Oakland, securing three consecutive World Series rings from 1972 through 1974. The reverse side of the card features the bright, unmistakable yellow stock unique to the Canadian O-Pee-Chee release, complete with a bilingual English and French biographical write-up detailing their journeys. A detailed examination of the physical card indicates standard light vintage wear that preserves strong eye appeal. The highly sensitive black borders on the front show mild touch-wear and chipping along the edges, which is typical for the 1971 release. The corners exhibit gentle rounding consistent with light handling but remain free of severe fraying. Centering is shifted slightly to the left on the front obverse. The bilingual yellow reverse face is clean, bright, and completely free of wax staining, pen marks, or major surface creases. Grade Estimate: EX 5
