Description

1971 O-Pee-Chee Joe Theismann Rookie Card #13 Toronto Argonauts (EX 5) This is the ultimate prize for vintage football card investors: the legendary 1971 O-Pee-Chee Joe Theismann Rookie Card #13! Long before he became a Super Bowl champion and an MVP in the NFL with Washington, Joe Theismann brought his immense collegiate credentials from Notre Dame straight up north to the Canadian Football League. Drafted by the Miami Dolphins but unable to reach a contract agreement, Theismann signed with the Toronto Argonauts, immediately transforming into a bona fide CFL superstar. This historic card captures the very beginning of his legendary professional football career. The reverse of the card details his incredible entry into the league and highlights a fascinating trivia nugget—that he was also drafted by a professional baseball club! Featuring the classic O-Pee-Chee bilingual layout, the text celebrates this future icon in both English and French. The 1971 O-Pee-Chee Theismann rookie is universally recognized as one of the most critical and valuable football rookie cards of the post-war era, making it an absolute centerpiece for any serious sports card portfolio. As the definitive key card of this entire 9-card group, this Joe Theismann rookie card has been closely examined. The fragile red borders show typical light edge chipping, primarily along the top and left margins. The corners show mild softening consistent with a mid-grade vintage status, with no severe blunt impacts or layered splitting. The centering is shifted towards the right side, which is standard for O-Pee-Chee's erratic factory formatting that season. Crucially, the surface is free from any distracting spider creases or deep wrinkles, and the back is clean with no moisture stains or writing. Grade Estimate: EX 5
