Secure an authentic piece of 1970s hockey history with this 1973-74 O-Pee-Chee Gilles Meloche card, featuring the highly sought-after dark grey back variant. As one of the most beloved netminders of his generation, Meloche spent his early career standing tall under a relentless barrage of shots for the underdog California Golden Seals. This card features a vibrant, iconic red border framing a classic studio portrait of Meloche in his full vintage goalie gear, complete with the legendary Seals logo emblazoned across his chest. It represents a fantastic, budget-friendly addition for hockey purists and collectors who appreciate the short-lived, colorful history of the NHL's Bay Area expansion franchise.

Throughout his remarkable 18-season NHL career, Gilles Meloche became synonymous with resilience and spectacular acrobatic saves. Despite playing behind rebuilding rosters in California, Cleveland, and Minnesota, he amassed 270 career regular-season victories and recorded 20 shutouts. His masterful performances earned him multiple NHL All-Star Game selections and cemented his legacy as a premier goaltender who could single-handedly steal games against powerhouse dynasties. While this particular example shows honest handling wear, it remains a vital filler option for anybody looking to complete a master set of the 1973-74 O-Pee-Chee hockey release or trying to collect the challenging dark back variations that are increasingly difficult to source.

Condition Report:
This card is a well-loved vintage item that shows visible wear, placing it into a raw grade estimate of VG 3. The card features a clear, visible crease across the front surface, which is typical for cards of this era that were actively handled by early collectors. The front edges show standard factory rough-cutting typical of O-Pee-Chee stock, though the deep red borders still maintain a nice, vibrant hue. The corners exhibit noticeable softening and light uniform rounding at the tips. Centering favors slightly toward the left side but remains within reasonable collection standards. The reverse side features the dark gray cardstock variant, with the bilingual French and English text block remaining perfectly legible despite the surface creasing. Make sure to double-check the physical label to confirm this information once it arrives in your collection.
