1972-73 O-Pee-Chee Montreal Canadiens #10 Team Logo Insert NHL
The 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee Montreal Canadiens #10 Team Logo Insert NHL presents the famous CH crest in bold red, blue, and white during one of the most dominant seasons in franchise history. Few hockey symbols carry comparable cultural weight, and this large intact push-out gives the logo room to command the entire card. It is a natural fit for an Original Six collection, a Canadiens display, or a complete 30-card O-Pee-Chee Team Logos run. O-Pee-Chee inserted these logo cards in third-series 1972-73 wax packs, combining NHL and WHA subjects in a memorable Canadian issue. The insert was produced without a printed number, while #10 serves as its established checklist reference. Montreal entered the 1972-73 campaign as a perennial power and finished it by winning the Stanley Cup, defeating the Chicago Black Hawks in six games. The roster bridged generations of Canadiens greatness. Captain Henri Richard provided a living connection to the club’s 1950s dynasty, Ken Dryden had already emerged as an elite goaltender, and young Guy Lafleur was beginning the career that would make him one of hockey’s most exciting superstars. Yvan Cournoyer, Jacques Lemaire, Serge Savard, and Larry Robinson further defined an organization that treated championship contention as an expectation. The crest on this card is therefore more than a logo. It represents a season that added another title to the most decorated record in NHL history. The die-cut emblem remains seated inside the rectangular surround, which is important because these inserts were designed to be pushed out and used. The reverse is the correct plain brown adhesive-style stock with the cut line visible from behind. It is not a Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual statistical back and it is not a puzzle back. The red and blue printing remains strong, the central white areas are clean overall, and no obvious full-card crease is visible. The outer corners show mild age-softening rather than heavy rounding, and the edges display light fibre wear with no major chipping. A faint handwritten pencil number 25 appears in the lower-left cream margin, which is the clearest mark. Minor print specks and small surface traces are present in the coloured fields, while the die-cut channel is visible but intact around the unusual rounded CH silhouette. The logo is large and appears slightly high within the card, leaving less cream space above than below, though left-to-right balance is pleasing. The brown back has uniform age toning and normal stock texture, with no printed statistics or puzzle image. A conservative EX 5 estimate reflects the pencil notation, minor handling, and centering while recognizing the strong colour and apparent absence of a major crease. This attractive example lets a collector own a genuine early 1970s Canadiens insert from a Stanley Cup season at an accessible raw-card price.
