1972-73 O-Pee-Chee Rick MacLeish #105 Philadelphia Flyers
Clutch scoring defined the Broad Street Bullies and this 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee Rick MacLeish #105 Philadelphia Flyers celebrates the smooth sniper who delivered two of the biggest goals in franchise history. After a brief apprenticeship in the minors, MacLeish broke out in a huge way in 1972-73 with 50 goals and 50 assists for 100 points, becoming the first Flyer to score 50 in a season and announcing Philadelphia as a legitimate Stanley Cup threat. That breakout happened in one of the most exciting seasons ever, with the Summit Series hangover still fresh, Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito dueling in Boston, and the new WHA trying to lure stars away, yet the young Flyers led by Bobby Clarke, Bill Barber and MacLeish pushed to a semifinal finish before winning it all the next two springs. MacLeish peak years were spectacular. He won Stanley Cups with Philadelphia in 1974 and 1975, led the entire 1974 playoffs with 13 goals, then scored the Stanley Cup winning goal against Buffalo in Game Six in 1975, beating Roger Crozier for a 2 to 0 shutout clincher that still replays in Philly highlight reels. He later added a second 50 goal season with 51 in 1976-77, played in three NHL All Star Games and finished with 349 goals and 697 points in 846 games. Known as the Hawk for his nose for the net, his wrist shot and power play touch complemented Clarke playmaking perfectly. This 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee card shows MacLeish in a classic skating pose in the orange Flyers jersey against the bright blue background exclusive to Philadelphia that year, framed by the tan border and yellow name ribbon. The reverse is the true Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back with English and French notes on his 24 goal Richmond season and rapid rise, full career stats and PRINTED IN CANADA, confirming it is not a Topps version and not a puzzle back. It is essential for Flyers Cup teams and 50 goal scorer collections. corners exhibit light touches with minor softness at the lower corners visible on close look, edges are clean overall with slight tan roughness on the lower edge, front retains excellent gloss with sharp orange and black inks and no print snow, centering is approximately 60/40 left to right and 55/45 top to bottom with complete yellow bar and logo, back shows clean cardboard with legible print and normal light toning, no creases wrinkles or writing detected in the sleeve images, supporting a conservative raw grade estimate of EX 5 that offers strong collector value for a 50 goal star card.
