Description

1972 O-Pee-Chee Orland Kurtenbach #149 NHL Action Card Vancouver Canucks The Vancouver Canucks' first two seasons in the NHL belonged to a small group of players who defined the franchise's early identity, and this 1972 O-Pee-Chee Orland Kurtenbach #149 NHL Action card features one of them on a Vancouver vs. Toronto card, with the red NHL ACTION banner and the white star badge identifying the Vancouver Centre. The front photo shows the Canucks battling the Maple Leafs in the corner, framed by the classic 1972 O-Pee-Chee tan border. Kurtenbach, a 6'4" centre, was one of the Canucks' first major signings and the team's captain from the franchise's 1970-71 debut, and the card's own bilingual back celebrates exactly that role. It tells how Orland has been the Captain of the Vancouver Canucks since the NHL entry was formed, how his aggressive style and leadership ability have made him a favorite with Vancouver fans, and how the big captain became a fan favourite in the new NHL city. Coming out of the Western Canada Hockey League, where he was one of the top players in the circuit, Kurtenbach brought size, physicality, and leadership to a brand-new franchise, and action cards from the 1972 O-Pee-Chee set are among the most collected early Canucks cards because Vancouver was the youngest team in the league and its cards carry special nostalgia for collectors. As a 1972 O-Pee-Chee Orland Kurtenbach #149, the card is a must-have for 1972 OPC sets and a cornerstone for 1970s Vancouver Canucks team sets, and it is the go-to early captain card for collectors building the franchise's formative years. The reverse is the Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back, printed in Canada, and not a US puzzle back. It carries the O. P. C. copyright, the large orange ORLAND KURTENBACH name panel, and a bilingual biography in English and French about his captaincy and his standing with the Vancouver fans. the front shows light to moderate surface scuffing and a few handling marks along the tan border, the corners show noticeable roundness with light edge chipping at the top right, the edges show light wear, the centering is acceptable for the era, and the back is clean with light age toning and no noticeable printing defects. The grade is conservative because the rounded corners and small edge chips are visible in the photos, and binder storage can hide additional fine surface marks on vintage O-Pee-Chee stock. This is an authentic 1972 O-Pee-Chee Orland Kurtenbach #149 NHL Action card and a solid value piece for 1972 O-Pee-Chee collections and 1970s Vancouver Canucks sets. Grade Estimate: VG-EX 4
