Description

1972 O-Pee-Chee Bill Danychuk #6 Hamilton Tiger-Cats CFL All-Star Celebrate the excellence of one of Hamilton's most decorated offensive linemen with this 1972 O-Pee-Chee Bill Danychuk #6 Hamilton Tiger-Cats CFL All-Star card from the championship era. Bill Danychuk was the model of consistency and versatility on the Tiger-Cats offensive line, playing both offensive tackle and guard with equal effectiveness and earning recognition as one of the best Canadian linemen of his generation. After joining Hamilton in the late sixties, he developed into a mainstay who was named to the E F C and C F L All-Star teams in 1968 and again as a dominant force through the early seventies. In 1971 he switched to tackle and continued to excel, providing the protection that allowed Chuck Ealey's option attack to flourish en route to the 1972 Grey Cup title. His career is a testament to the Canadian talent that formed the backbone of Hamilton's success during that decade, and his name still resonates with Tiger-Cats historians who remember the dominant fronts of the Mosca era. This 1972 O-Pee-Chee card features the cheerful yellow Tiger-Cats border, a head and shoulders portrait of Danychuk in his number 55 jersey with the distinctive striped sleeves of the era, and a clean nameplate at the bottom identifying him as a tackle. The reverse is the classic Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back with blue and green printing, cartoon titled My Two Wives cartoon from 1970, and bilingual biography noting his All-Star selections and positional switch, printed in Canada by O P C and not a puzzle back. Front centering is approximately 55/45 with balanced yellow borders, corners are nicely pointed with only the upper right showing a whisper of wear, edges show no significant chipping and retain bright yellow color, surface is free of creases, wrinkles or print defects and the image is sharply focused, back presents with light even age toning, blue border is intact, text is fully readable in both languages, no marks or stains, overall a very clean example for a 50 plus year old card. This is an ideal card for offensive line collectors and Tiger-Cats team set enthusiasts. Grade Estimate: EX-MT 6
