1972 O-Pee-Chee CFL Ted Collins #16 Montreal Alouettes VG-EX 4 Bring home a piece of Montreal football history with this 1972 O-Pee-Chee CFL Ted Collins #16 Montreal Alouettes card, showing the big defensive end in the green number 66 jersey beneath the bold ALOUETTES banner that defines this classic set. Ted Collins was an American trained Canadian from Windsor, Ontario, a border city that has long fed talent to both Canadian and American football, and he was listed at six foot one and 265 pounds as a non-import, which made him a valuable asset under the CFL's roster rules. The bilingual back explains that he was acquired by the Alouettes in a trade with Winnipeg for import defensive end Bill Glennon, and the cartoon panel humorously depicts the deal with the caption Acquired by Trade. Collins joined a Montreal club that had shocked the league by winning the 1970 Grey Cup under coach Sam Etcheverry after finishing the previous season with a dismal record, and the early 1970s Alouettes defence was a rugged, physical unit that helped keep the team competitive through the transition to Olympic Stadium later in the decade. The 1972 O-Pee-Chee CFL set includes 132 cards printed in Canada with bilingual blue and green backs marked O. P. C., and Alouettes cards from this issue are popular with Quebec collectors and fans of vintage Canadian football alike. this copy displays strong colour and good gloss on the front. All four corners show light rounding with the upper left corner slightly softer than the others, there is minor chipping to the blue border along the top edge and light wear along the left edge, and the image itself is clean with no scratches or print defects of note. Centering is shifted slightly toward the top and right. The back is clean and crisp with legible text, no writing, no stains, and light corner wear consistent with the front, and I found no creases or wrinkles in either scan. With honest corner wear but no structural flaws, I am conservatively estimating this raw card at VG-EX 4. A great pickup for anyone assembling a 1972 O-Pee-Chee CFL set or a Montreal Alouettes team collection from the club's championship era. Grade Estimate: VG-EX 4
