1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL Jim Mankins #42 Ottawa Rough Riders GOOD 2 Here is a budget friendly, well loved copy of the 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL Jim Mankins #42 Ottawa Rough Riders card, perfect for the collector who wants a genuine piece of early Canadian football cardboard without paying a premium for pristine condition. Jim Mankins was an American import fullback from Florida State University who joined an Ottawa Rough Riders club that had just claimed consecutive Grey Cup titles in 1968 and 1969 under head coach Frank Clair, with legends like Russ Jackson and Ron Stewart leading the offence. At six foot one and 220 pounds, Mankins was built for short yardage and hard inside plunges, and the bilingual back of this card celebrates his ability to take pressure off his running mates with ruthless work between the tackles. The green cartoon panel on the reverse proclaims that Jim is the biggest halfback on the team, one of the charming quirks that make the 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL set so collectible. The 115-card set was printed in Canada with black backs printed in both English and French, and the dark reverse is notorious for showing every bit of handling, which makes clean copies tough and worn copies plentiful and affordable. The front shows the classic kneeling stadium pose in the black Ottawa jersey with the number 16 and the red bucking horse Rough Riders logo. this copy has clearly been enjoyed by a young fan decades ago. The front shows heavy rounding on all four corners, a visible crease running through the upper left region near the border, noticeable edge chipping along the left and top borders, and general surface wear across the image, though the picture itself remains bright and fully legible. Centering is roughly comparable to the other copy in this lot with a slight shift left. The back shows significant chipping and scuffing at the upper left corner where the black surface has worn through to white cardboard, plus additional edge wear along the perimeter, but the text and cartoon are clean and there is no writing, tape, or staining. Given the crease and the extent of corner and edge wear, I am conservatively grading this raw card at GOOD 2. It is a perfect starter copy, a great trading piece, or a fun addition to a vintage CFL binder for anyone who appreciates cards with character and history. Grade Estimate: GOOD 2
