Description

1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL Whit Tucker #47 Ottawa Rough Riders EX 5 The crown jewel of this group is a Canadian Football Hall of Famer, offered here as a 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL Whit Tucker #47 Ottawa Rough Riders EX 5 vintage single. Few players in CFL history stretched the field like Tucker. The Windsor-born flanker starred at the University of Western Ontario, where the card's green cartoon panel notes he held several track and field records in intercollegiate athletics, and that sprinter's speed translated directly to the pro game. Listed at six feet and 175 pounds, Tucker became the favourite deep target of legendary quarterback Russ Jackson, and their long-bomb connection powered the Rough Riders to back-to-back Grey Cup championships in 1968 and 1969, immediately before this card was issued. Tucker retired with one of the highest yards-per-catch averages the Canadian game has ever seen and was rightfully inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1993, which makes his card the key piece of this listing group and a meaningful pickup for any serious CFL collection. The 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL set of 115 cards was printed in Canada, and the reverse of this card is a genuine bilingual back with the biography in both English and French over the classic black background, not a puzzle back, describing the intercollegiate all-star honours, exceptional speed, good hands and consistent CFL all-star selections that defined his career. The front is a moody departure from the sunlit Alouettes poses, showing Tucker indoors in his black number 26 Ottawa jersey with orange and white sleeve stripes, helmet at his hip, a striking dark-background design that presents beautifully in hand. this copy shows only light corner wear with the tips still holding reasonable points, minor edge chipping that reads more visibly against the darker photo background than it actually is, centering slightly toward the bottom, clean crease-free surfaces on the front, and a strong black bilingual back with sharp legible text and only faint handling wear. With no creases, respectable corners and strong eye appeal for a notoriously condition-sensitive dark-bordered issue, we grade this card a conservative EX 5, noting the visual pop in hand exceeds what the scan suggests. Hall of Fame players are the anchors of the 1970 OPC CFL set, and honest excellent-grade Tucker copies do not linger. Secure this Ottawa legend today, shipped protected from Ontario. Grade Estimate: EX 5
