1970 O-Pee-Chee Terry Evanshen #98 CFL Hall of Fame Montreal Alouettes VG-EX 4 Among the most important names in the entire Canadian football checklist, this 1970 O-Pee-Chee Terry Evanshen #98 CFL Hall of Fame Montreal Alouettes VG-EX 4 features a receiver who is genuinely legendary north of the border. Evanshen appears in the green Alouettes home jersey wearing number 25, football tucked under his right arm, standing on a sunlit field with the oval alouettes montreal logo in the lower corner, the very picture of a confident veteran star. The card back calls him a proven perennial CFL all star and notes that although he plays on the small side at five foot ten and one hundred and eighty pounds, Terry makes up for it with great moves and speed, while the cartoon panel celebrates that he was named the outstanding Canadian player in 1967. That honour, the Schenley Award for Most Outstanding Canadian, was one of several he collected, and Evanshen finished his career as one of the greatest Canadian born receivers the league has produced, later earning induction into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and becoming known to a wider public through the account of his recovery from a catastrophic 1988 car accident, a story told in the book and film The Man Who Lost Himself. That combination of on field greatness and remarkable personal history makes this one of the true key cards of the 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL set. This is a Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back, with the English biography followed by a full French translation and the green cartoon panel captioned in both official languages. the front is attractive with strong colour and a clean, well focused portrait, showing light corner wear at the top left and a slightly soft lower right corner, minor edge chipping along the bottom border and a small nick on the left edge, with centering close to fifty five to forty five left to right and reasonably even top to bottom; the black back shows moderate chipping along the left edge and across the bottom with white flecking with corner creases, and no wrinkles or scratches break the front surface and there is no writing or staining anywhere. Because this is a Hall of Fame name in honest mid grade condition, demand is consistently stronger than for common cards in the set, and a conservative VG-EX estimate reflects the back chipping and corner softness while acknowledging genuinely good front eye appeal. Grade Estimate: VG-EX 4
