$25.00
The crown jewel of this entire sheet is without question this 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee Marcel Dionne #8, an early card of the Hall of Fame centre who was selected second overall in the legendary 1971 draft, one pick after Guy Lafleur, in a selection so controversial that it fuelled decades of what-if debates across the hockey world. As his second-year card, this issue is a cornerstone for Red Wings and Hall of Fame collectors alike, sitting one step beyond his celebrated rookie and remaining one of the most sought-after affordable Dionne cards of the 1970s. 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee Marcel Dionne #8 Hall of Fame Second Year Card Detroit Red Wings
The confident young smile in the winged wheel sweater captures a player who was already outshining veterans as a teenage rookie, and the back bio raves about his quick release, his shifty centre-ice moves and his status as one of the most impressive players in the entire league despite his lack of size. Dionne would go on to author one of the greatest careers in hockey history, winning the Art Ross Trophy in 1980 by edging out Wayne Gretzky, scoring more than five hundred goals and seventeen hundred points, and earning his 1992 induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame after starring for Detroit, Los Angeles and the New York Rangers. As his second-year card, this issue is a cornerstone for Red Wings and Hall of Fame collectors alike, sitting one step beyond his celebrated rookie and remaining one of the most sought-after affordable Dionne cards of the 1970s. The card comes from the 340-card 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee set with the classic tan woodgrain border, yellow name banner and circular winged wheel crest. The reverse is the genuine Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back with English and French text side by side, the cartoon panel and the career record table, confirming the Canadian OPC printing rather than the American Topps issue, and it is not a puzzle back. this is the sharpest card on the sheet, with near-perfect 50/50 centering, four genuinely sharp corners, clean edges, a glossy surface free of creases, wrinkles and marks, and a bilingual back that is clean with bold orange ink and no staining or toning. Even so, I grade conservatively on raw vintage OPC because micro-wear invisible in photos can appear under a grader's loupe, so the card earns a raw estimate of EX-MT 6, a strong honest assessment for a Hall of Fame key card that would command a serious premium in a slab.
