Description

1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL Garney Henley #16 Hall of Fame Hamilton Tiger-Cats EX-MT 6 The crown jewel of this nine-card sheet is here, and it belongs to perhaps the greatest all-round athlete ever to suit up in the Canadian game. This listing offers a single raw copy of Garney Henley's 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL card, number 16 in the set, photographed in the centre slot of the sleeve front and showing the legendary number 26 in his black and gold Tiger-Cats best. Henley's resume reads like the entire decade of CFL history compressed into one career: a Huron College product out of South Dakota who arrived in Hamilton in 1960, he starred on both sides of the ball, and the bilingual back of this very card says it plainly, Garney is one of the best all-round athletes ever to come to Canada, adding that he coached basketball at the University of Guelph in the off-season, while the green cartoon panel notes that Garney is good in all sports, possibly the most accurate cartoon caption the hobby ever produced. Four Grey Cup championships with Hamilton in 1963, 1965, 1967 and 1972. All-star honours at both defensive back and receiver across double-digit selections. The 1972 CFL Most Outstanding Player Award, won as a two-way force in an era built on specialization. Induction into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1979, the moment his status became eternal. Owning his 1971 O-Pee-Chee card means owning the hobby's snapshot of that peak, a Canadian-only issue with its colour portrait framed in white, name in red, the Tiger-Cats roundel glowing at lower right, and a reverse that delivers English and French text on that dramatic black ground with PRINTED IN CANADA down the edge. Star cards from this set are getting harder to find in honest mid-to-upper grades as the surviving population thins, and Henley sits at the very top of the Hamilton checklist demand curve. Collectors searching 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL Garney Henley #16 Hall of Fame Hamilton Tiger-Cats EX-MT 6 are exactly the buyers this copy was photographed for, strong, clean and ready for the trophy row of a Tiger-Cats collection. the front shows light touches at three corner tips, mild wear along the top edge, and centering that sits slightly toward the bottom border, while the photo surface remains free of creases, wrinkles and stains with deep, even colour and pleasing gloss; applying the page-flip mapping, this card's reverse occupies the centre of the back scan and shows only mild corner whitening and a few faint print lines in the black background, with the bilingual text sharp and the green cartoon panel crisp. This is the Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back version of the card, not a puzzle back. Grade Estimate: EX-MT 6
