1970 O-Pee-Chee Bill Danychuk #20 Hamilton Tiger-Cats VG-EX 4 Offensive line collectors and Hamilton loyalists should not overlook this 1970 O-Pee-Chee Bill Danychuk #20 Hamilton Tiger-Cats VG-EX 4 now listed at Alex Collect. The front captures Danychuk in his number 55 jersey with hands on hips, staring down the camera with the quiet confidence of a man who opened holes for championship running games year after year. The white borders and Tiger-Cats logo frame the portrait cleanly, and the gold numerals retain excellent pop. Linemen cards are often undervalued compared to skill positions, which makes this an outstanding opportunity to add a two time CFL All-Star and three time Grey Cup winner at a fraction of the price of quarterbacks and receivers from the same sheet. Stepping back to the set itself, the 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL issue is one of the most nostalgic Canadian football products ever made. The 115 card checklist was printed in Canada and distributed in wax packs with that unmistakable sweet gum aroma that older collectors still remember. Fronts kept things simple to let the photography shine, while backs went bold with black ink, full bilingual bios, and a distinctive green cartoon vignette that gives each card its own personality. This is a Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back with English and French text and a green cartoon panel, not a puzzle back, which is exactly what advanced O-Pee-Chee specialists want to see. The combination of low survival rates in high grade and enduring Tiger-Cats popularity keeps demand steady for attractive mid grade examples like this one. Danychuk's credentials speak volumes. Born August 29, 1940 and a product of the University of Tennessee, William DArcy Danychuk played his entire CFL career from 1964 to 1975 with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, anchoring the interior line for three Grey Cup championship teams in 1965, 1967 and 1972. He was selected as a CFL All-Star twice in 1968 and 1970 and as a CFL East All-Star five times in 1967, 1968, 1970, 1972 and 1973, earning a reputation as one of the most underrated yet technically sound blockers of his era. His card back fittingly calls him one of the most underrated players on the Ti-Cat team and praises his quickness off the ball. He passed away December 27, 2019, but his legacy as a durable 12 season iron man in black and gold only grows with time. front centering is approximately 60/40 left to right and 55/45 top to bottom with complete borders and sharp registration, surface shows strong color with only light print texture visible under magnification, corners exhibit light to moderate wear with small white showing at each tip, edges have minor toning and a couple of tiny nicks on the white stock, back with number 20 is fully legible with bold white lettering against the black field, black edges display moderate chipping with scattered white specks most evident along the left and bottom borders, green cartoon area remains bright and unmarked, no creases, wrinkles, stains or writing observed. The conservative grade estimate explanation lands at VG-EX 4 because corner touches plus typical black stock chipping prevent EX, while overall presentation is still very pleasing for a vintage Hall of Fame caliber lineman. Grade Estimate: VG-EX 4
