Description

1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL Dave Cranmer #93 Rookie Calgary Stampeders VG-EX 4 This 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL Dave Cranmer #93 Rookie Calgary Stampeders VG-EX 4 card presents one of the most dynamic photographs in the set, showing Cranmer in a red Calgary Stampeders uniform as he runs with the football in an empty stadium. The action pose makes this card instantly identifiable and gives it a strong display presence even though it is being sold as a raw mid-grade example. Dave Cranmer was a Sarnia, Ontario native and Bowling Green State graduate who joined the Calgary Stampeders in 1968. His first CFL season brought the Dr. Beattie Martin Trophy for Western Conference rookie of the year, supported by 572 rushing yards and a significant receiving contribution. He played the game as a versatile back rather than a one-dimensional runner, and his early Calgary seasons remain the central collecting focus for this card. The #93 issue belongs to the 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL set, a 115-card Canadian release with a distinctive visual connection to the football cards of the era. O-Pee-Chee used colourful stadium photography, large cream name panels and bilingual Canadian backs, making these cards especially appealing to collectors who want a piece of CFL history rather than a generic American football issue. The reverse shown here is a Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back, not a puzzle back. It includes English and French biography text, player details, Calgary Stampeders team information, Bowling Green State, the import designation and the green illustrated winter trivia panel. The Printed in Canada line is visible on the reverse and is an important set identifier. The front has a strong image and readable lettering, but it shows more general handling than a higher-grade copy. The upper corners are softly rounded, the lower corners have light whitening, and the border edges show several small chips and uneven touches, especially along the lower edge. Fine surface lines and a few small marks are visible in the blue sky and around the stadium, with faint wear continuing across the image area. The reverse has noticeable edge rubbing and small chips at the corners, with light scuffing through portions of the black text field and around the green panel. A pale line near the reverse text appears to be a shallow surface wrinkle or sleeve reflection rather than a confirmed full card crease, so the estimate is kept conservative. Centering looks close to 55/45 left to right, with a slightly uneven top to bottom balance that remains acceptable for a vintage raw card. There is no visible writing, tape, missing paper or major fold in the supplied images. This is a solid affordable choice for a Calgary Stampeders collector, a Dave Cranmer player collection or a builder working toward the complete 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL set. Grade Estimate: VG-EX 4
