Description

1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL Dave Cranmer #93 Rookie Calgary Stampeders EX 5 Celebrate an important Calgary Stampeders backfield card with this 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL Dave Cranmer #93 Rookie Calgary Stampeders EX 5 trading card. The front captures Cranmer in motion wearing the vivid red number 33 uniform, carrying the ball across the Calgary field with the empty stadium rising behind him. It is a more energetic image than a simple headshot and gives the card strong visual appeal for collectors of vintage CFL football, Calgary memorabilia and early O-Pee-Chee issues. Dave Cranmer was born in Sarnia, Ontario, attended Bowling Green State University and entered the CFL with Calgary in 1968. In his first season he won the Dr. Beattie Martin Trophy as the Western Conference's top Canadian rookie after rushing for 572 yards and contributing 492 receiving yards. He remained a productive multi-purpose player for the Stampeders through 1970, and the card captures him during that Calgary chapter before later stops with Toronto, BC and Hamilton. The 1970 issue is widely collected as his first major O-Pee-Chee CFL card and is commonly described by sellers as a rookie card, making the #93 designation useful for player collectors and set builders. The 1970 O-Pee-Chee CFL set contains 115 cards and is a particularly attractive Canadian release because it combines saturated stadium photography with bilingual text on the reverse. The reverse in these photographs is a Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back, not a puzzle back. It carries Cranmer's English and French biography, Calgary Stampeders identification, Running Back position, import designation, Bowling Green State information and a green cartoon trivia panel. The Printed in Canada statement further confirms the Canadian issue and separates it from related American football card products. The front retains good colour, a sharp central action image and readable cream lettering. The corners show light rounding, with a small touch of whitening at the lower left and mild wear at the upper corners. The side edges have occasional tiny nicks, while the lower edge shows modest handling whitening. A few dark specks and faint surface marks appear in the blue sky and stadium area, but there is no obvious major crease crossing the photograph. The reverse shows light rubbing in the black field and modest corner wear, with small edge chips along the exposed border. Fine lines are visible near the text and green cartoon panel, though some are consistent with reflections or pressure marks from the protective sleeve. Centering appears about 55/45 left to right, with the photo and caption block sitting close to even vertically. The card is not being represented as professionally graded, trimmed or altered. Its bright team colour, action pose and first O-Pee-Chee presentation make it a strong raw listing for collectors who want a recognizable Dave Cranmer rookie-era CFL card without paying a slabbed premium. Grade Estimate: EX 5
