Description

1971 O-Pee-Chee CFL Rick Shaw #24 Vintage Base Card Winnipeg Blue Bombers For collectors interested in the 1971 O-Pee-Chee CFL Rick Shaw #24 Vintage Base Card Winnipeg Blue Bombers, this card offers a colorful look at a talented athlete who moved between defensive back and wide receiver roles. The front features Shaw in the Winnipeg Blue Bombers uniform, with the bold red O-Pee-Chee border, large player name, team logo, Blue Bombers wordmark, and wide receiver designation. The portrait photography and bright period colors make it an attractive addition to a vintage CFL collection. This is a single original card from the Canadian 1971 O-Pee-Chee CFL set, an issue valued for its bilingual backs and distinctive early 1970s design. The reverse identifies Shaw as an import, lists Arizona State University, and gives a listed size of approximately 6 feet 4 inches and 215 pounds. It notes that this was his second season with the Bombers and that he began his professional career with the Calgary Stampeders. Shaw’s football journey also included a tryout connection with the National Football League, and he was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the sixth round of the 1969 professional draft. He played for Calgary before joining Winnipeg, where he became a productive receiver. In 1970 he recorded 33 receptions for 538 yards and two touchdowns and earned CFL West All-Star recognition. Shaw later joined the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and was part of Hamilton’s 1972 Grey Cup championship team. His career is therefore appealing to collectors who follow Arizona State players, Dallas Cowboys draft history, Calgary and Winnipeg football, Grey Cup connections, and versatile CFL athletes who contributed on both sides of the ball. The reverse reflects the bilingual identity of the O-Pee-Chee release. This is a Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back, not a puzzle back. It includes English and French copy, a cartoon football illustration, card number, player measurements, college, position, career note, O-Pee-Chee branding, and Printed in Canada wording. No definite crease, wrinkle, or major indentation is visible in the supplied photographs. The upper corners show light softening with isolated whitening, and the lower corners are intact but mildly rounded with small white flecks. The front red border displays scattered tiny marks, fine hairline surface lines, and modest chipping along parts of the lower and side edges. The player portrait and Blue Bombers lettering remain clear and attractive. The reverse shows normal age toning, minor speckling, and light edge wear without visible writing or severe staining. Centering appears close to 54/46 left to right and approximately 50/50 top to bottom. Several fine linear marks may be reflections from the protective sleeve rather than confirmed card creases. The visible condition is consistent with a conservative raw Excellent grade and a strong display copy for a vintage CFL collection. Grade Estimate: EX 5
