1971 O-Pee-Chee CFL Dave Gasser #55 Vintage Base Card Edmonton Eskimos The 1971 O-Pee-Chee CFL Dave Gasser #55 Vintage Base Card Edmonton Eskimos is an excellent choice for collectors who value hard-hitting linebackers and award-winning Edmonton football history. The front shows Gasser in the green and gold Edmonton Eskimos uniform, presented in the bold red O-Pee-Chee design that defines this Canadian football set. His close portrait, team name, position identification, and circular Eskimos emblem create a colorful period snapshot of an important defensive player. The design has the unmistakable look of early 1970s sports cards, with saturated red borders, large block lettering, and a straightforward portrait format that keeps the player at the centre of the card. This is an original single card, not a sheet or reproduction. Dave Gasser had a notable run with Edmonton. The reverse lists him as an import linebacker standing approximately 6 feet 1 inch and weighing 225 pounds, with West Texas State shown as his college. The card highlights his 1970 season, explaining that the four-year veteran was selected as a linebacker on the Western All-Star Team and received the Jackie Parker Trophy after an outstanding campaign. Gasser continued to build on that recognition, earning CFL All-Star honours in 1970, 1971, and 1972. He played for Edmonton from 1967 through 1972 and wore number 65 during his Eskimos career, becoming one of the recognizable defensive figures of the team’s early 1970s roster. His combination of size, consistency, and all-star recognition makes this card especially attractive to collectors interested in vintage linebackers, Edmonton Eskimos history, and award winners from the classic CFL era. The reverse is also a good example of the bilingual approach that distinguished Canadian O-Pee-Chee football cards from many American issues. This is a Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back, not a puzzle back. It carries the card number, illustrated football cartoon, English and French text, player measurements, school, position, career highlight, O-Pee-Chee copyright line, and Printed in Canada statement. The photographs do not reveal an obvious crease, wrinkle, or major pressure mark. The upper corners are intact with light whitening, and the upper right has a small amount of visible edge roughness. The lower corners are mildly softened, with isolated white flecks and light chipping along the bottom edge. The red front background shows scattered tiny print loss and fine surface lines, especially visible under the scan lighting, while the photograph and lettering remain strong. The reverse has normal age toning, small speckles, and mild perimeter wear but no visible writing or major staining. Centering appears approximately 54/46 left to right and close to 50/50 vertically. Because the scan was made through a protective sleeve, some long fine marks can be sleeve artifacts rather than confirmed card damage. These factors support a conservative raw Excellent estimate. Grade Estimate: EX 5
