Description

1970 O-Pee-Chee Trevor Ekdahl #36 British Columbia Lions VG 3 The 1970 O-Pee-Chee Trevor Ekdahl #36 British Columbia Lions VG 3 card is a genuine vintage CFL collectible with an appealing stadium portrait and honest circulation wear. Ekdahl kneels on the turf wearing number 66, his white Lions uniform and orange shoulder accents standing out against a saturated blue sky. The image conveys the physical presence expected of an offensive guard, while the period grandstand and field markings transport collectors directly to Canadian football’s early 1970s landscape. A vivid roaring lion emblem appears at the lower right, giving the design unmistakable British Columbia identity. This card was issued in O-Pee-Chee’s 115-card 1970 CFL set, a Canadian release whose layout closely resembles the second series of 1969 Topps football. O-Pee-Chee’s version is distinguished by Canadian teams, field and stadium photography, and reverse text in English and French. The back of Ekdahl’s card is black with a green cartoon panel and a bilingual biography. It is an authentic Canadian O-Pee-Chee bilingual back and is not a puzzle back. The text describes Ekdahl as a strong offensive guard and records an honour he received at the University of Utah, where he served as president of the U. S. U. Athletics T. A. P. Society in 1966. As an interior lineman, Ekdahl was responsible for protecting passers and opening lanes for runners. Those duties were crucial in the CFL, where a wide field, substantial pre-snap motion, and a three-down structure placed a premium on rapid execution. The card is therefore an interesting collectible for enthusiasts of line play as well as Lions team history. It also offers a visual record of period uniforms, protective equipment, stadium architecture, and Canadian card design. A crease has been confirmed on this example and is the leading technical defect. The card also displays moderate corner rounding, visible wear at the tips, age toning across the cream borders, and small chips along the edges. The front retains pleasing colour and a complete image, although light surface marks, print imperfections, and handling evidence are visible. Centering is uneven, with modest differences in border width and the factory-cut character expected from vintage O-Pee-Chee production. The black reverse has conspicuous white chipping and rubbing around the perimeter, particularly at the corners and along portions of the upper edge. Despite that wear, the player information, bilingual biography, card number, and cartoon remain legible. No major piece of paper is missing, and no obvious writing is visible. The confirmed crease makes a conservative VG 3 estimate appropriate even though the card has good visual appeal in a sleeve. Corner softness, edge chipping, and surface wear reinforce that assessment and prevent a VG-EX grade. This is a raw card, and the estimate is not a professional certification. Grade Estimate: VG 3
